I enjoy painting animals, portraits and figurative work the most. The elements focused on in my paintings are gesture, line and organic shape. The acrylics are diluted and applied with a squeeze bottle, sticks and sometimes I add pastel. I develop images through line and layered washes which at times will be large puddles laying on my canvas for hours. My application methods can be unpredictable and this allows for spontaneous improvisation. I begin each piece with a reference which may or may not remain in the work, but will begin the deliberate mark making. A relationship and conversation will grow differently with each painting, creating a unique discovery. Most of my canvases will express my bold personality, love for energetic lines and passion for life. The process is the artist and the discovery is the art. |
